PRIDE Birdhouse Contest |
||||||||||||||||
Florence PRIDE has joined with Leonard Ellis, Tree Farm Manager, to invite anyone interested to help build much needed birdhouses to be placed in trees along the walking trail by the Cottonwood River. A contest is being held in which the birdhouses will be judged in three categories: Most Creative, Best Constructed, and Most Original. Houses must be of solid construction to withstand the Kansas elements. (They will be outdoors and all material should be considered for those conditions.) Deadline for finished birdhouses is April 1. Please bring your birdhouse to the City Office on or before that day. Winners will be notified and an announcement will be in the May "Crossroads" newsletter. Prizes will be awarded: Most Creative will receive $50; Best Constructed will receive $30; and Most Original will receive $20. Information regarding what types of birdhouses will attract which type of bird is located in the City Office. Any additional information may be obtained by contacting a PRIDE member. Other helpful links online, which also have the information for the types of houses, sizes of holes needed for which birds, etc., and some building plans, can be found here: Nature
